NY Flora Association (NYFA) Field Trip: Exploring Little Stony Point
This NYFA field trip will be led by Hudsonia’s Chris Graham (Chris sits on NYFA’s Board of Directors)
Cold Spring, Putnam County; 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Trip Description
Little Stony Point, part of Hudson Highlands State Park, is a small, rounded “point” that juts out into the Hudson River. It has a nice variety of habitats for such a small area, including mature oak forest, mixed-hardwood forest, a rocky summit (with excellent views), tidal sandy shore, and two dry, sandy meadows, where several interesting species dwell. We’ll hope to see good displays of flowering forbs including bush clovers, common bluecurls, whorled milkwort, narrow-leaved mountain mint, goldenrods, fragrant rabbit tobacco, and an orchid. There are interesting sedges here, too. We’ll aim to reach the rocky summit around 12:00, where participants can opt to stay and have lunch if they wish.
Limit: 14 participants
