Scientific Services
The protection of our water and view sheds, the quality of our air, and the persistence of the species, habitats, and ecosystems that support our own survival are in the hands of municipal agencies, zoning boards, land trusts and other landowners.
Working with our dedicated partners over the decades has confirmed our founding principle that good science allows us to balance human needs with the needs of all species, and has inspired us to broaden the range of our engagement.
Private landowners, including land trusts, hire us to assess current conditions, and recommend how to best safeguard and enhance extant habitats. We conduct biodiversity surveys and habitat assessments at the request of public agencies, NGOs, and individual landowners. Depending on the need, this research may be general assessments, or detailed surveys for particular species (or groups of species) of conservation concern. We also offer training programs for environmental policy-makers and practitioners through the Biodiversity Resources Center.
Agencies, municipalities, and NGOS also hire us to evaluate the quality of documents submitted in the permit process, and fill in the gaps when they fall short. More recently, we are working with architects and landscape architects to assess significant habitats as a first step in the design process for new projects, and for new green certification programs.
We design all studies to meet individual needs, conduct them objectively, and present our findings impartially.
