WALK THE LAND: Marsh and Woodland Habitat Walk at Vlei Marsh with Erik Kiviat

Join us for an early spring walk and discover the diversity of habitats at Vlei Marsh, one of Winnakee’s most interesting and ecologically significant protected lands. Vlei, which means “marsh” in Dutch, is designated a Significant Biodiversity Area by New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation, an acknowledgment of the woodland pools, wetlands and hardwood forest that combine to provide critical habitat for migrating birds, nesting amphibians and a multitude of plants and animals, terrestrial and aquatic. Guiding us is Erik Kiviat PhD, ecologist and Executive Director of Hudsonia, an organization dedicated to the research and education necessary for protecting the natural areas across our region.
