Evening Bat Walk with Dutchess Land Conservancy

Thursday, August 15, 7:00 to 9:00 PM

Dutchess Land Conservancy
Jesse & Gayle Bontecou Wildlife Conservation Preserve
80 Shuman, Stanfordville, NY

A guided bat walk with Dr. Amanda Bevan Zientek, Director of the Biodiversity Resources Center at Hudsonia.

Bats are among the most mysterious and misunderstood members of the animal kingdom, but their role in keeping insect populations under control and as pollinators is vital for ecosystems around the world. Come and learn more about our local bats and the important ecological part they play in the Hudson Valley. After a brief introductory bat discussion just before sunset, we’ll walk to bat feeding areas. Utilizing the latest technology, attendees will be able to hear the real-time echolocation calls of bats. A question-and-answer session followed the walk.

Please note that the Bontecou Preserve was not yet open to the public and was being made available expressly for this purpose.
